First few days at Lufbra
Wow! I've been here for 5 days and it has been a totally awesome and hectic schedule of lectures, partying, and meeting cool people from all over the world :D There are more than 60 students taking the orientation course and many more who have been here for longer doing the other pre-sessional courses, so we are quite a big and entertaining group.
Anyway the first day, Wednesday, was a total rush especially at the airport where I had to find my way from terminal 4 to terminal 3 in one hour, I managed to arrive just in time at 11am. I then met Rafael from Spain who thought me some Spanish on the coach to Lufbra, then for the rest of the day we got registered, toured the campus and accomodation halls before having dinner and went to a good bar at the student union with the rest of the guys.
On Thursday we started our lectures which were quite informative and we also had a group photo which took around an hour because the photographer kept rearranging the whole group. I felt sorry for the people who had to kneel for all that time hehe, luckily I was in the back row standing up :) In the afternoon we had a city centre tour which was good as they pointed out the important shops to us. I think that Lufbra i quite a small but nice town, exactly what I wanted. Anyway we then checked prices for our mobile connections and went to Sainsbury's to buy some beer and water. After that I took a personal tour of the campus, watching some hockey and spending some time in the fantastic swimming pool here at the university. I also checked the prices for memberships at the gyms and pool. In the evening we met and had a drink together at the EHB building, a great way to end a really nice day. What I haven't mentioned yet is the BEAUTIFUL weather there is here, really not what we were expecting as English weather is usually drab, cold and rainy so we were very happy about this abnormal weather :) has
On Friday we had some more lessons in the morning and afternoon, then in the evening we went to the supposed party at the common room but instead there was a chinese party so we went for a walk around and then came back and entered this party, which was indeed a party for a chinese guy's birthday. We entered however as we were welcome to join in and after some minutes we started playing table soccer in the dark lol. We soon decided to carry the soccer table to another part of the room and it quickly became the main attraction of the party with most people coming to try their hand at the game. Me and Rafa were quite a good team and I think that we didn't lose a single game while playing together :D Anyway stayed there till around midnight then went to sleep as the day after we had to go to York.
York was next on Saturday, starting off with an early breakfast and meeting for departure by coach at the Library at 8.30am. Was an enjoyable trip to York, took around 2.15 hours and stayed talking with Alex and Temo at the back of the coach with ample leg space :) York itself was a brilliant city, especially the Minster and the train museum. Unfortunately I had a small accident at the museum, bumping my head with a box on the wall which resulted in some blood but I held a tissue against my head and after a while it stopped bleeding. Anyway we enjoyed the rest of the day there as it was a sunny day and then went back to Lufbra by coach in which I took a short nap as I was very tired. When we came back we went to our rooms and then met again to go to Aidan's party in the town centre at a place called Vice Versa. The club was quite nice but I didn't particularly like the music and after some time we decided to leave. It was quite stupid as once you leave you cant go back in :S Anyway we went to some other pubs/discos which were quite good, especially Bar Europa (dancing on tables) and Varsity (80s music and some funny people). We finally ended up in another bar where we met the others again and brought the whole place to life with dancing and other disco acts including the famous trenino and the maltese disco dance :D
On Sunday we woke up late for brunch and then soon after in the afternoon I played some basketball and volleyball. After that me, Rafa, Maria and Laura went for a short jog before dinner. In the evening went out to the town centre where we went into a very nice bar/disco which was playing the type of music i like, but unfortunately the others didnt like it that much and we moved the place we had been the day before which was good too, had some funny conversations there :D After that we spent the rest of the night at Vice versa, the must club-like place in this town which was playing some cool music too :)
